New Delhi: Delhi Police detained two individuals for making a threat to bring a nuclear bomb to the Indira Gandhi International Airport during a security check. The incident occurred on April 5 when Jignesh Malani and Kashyap Kumar Lalani, residents of Rajkot, Gujarat, became agitated during the security screening before boarding a flight to Ahmedabad. Despite having undergone a security check, they objected to being searched again.

Allegedly, Malani and Lalani asked the security personnel what they would do if a nuclear bomb was taken on board. Concerned about the threat, security staff promptly apprehended them, leading to chaos on the flight. Both passengers were swiftly removed from the aircraft and handed over to Delhi Police, who subsequently registered a case against them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangani stated that the duo, identified as contractors in the construction sector, had traveled to Dwarka, Delhi, for a business meeting and were arrested based on a complaint from airport authorities. They have since been released on bail.

This incident follows a similar one in March when a Bangladeshi citizen, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, was arrested for sending a fake email claiming a bomb threat on a Delhi-Kolkata flight. His motive was to prevent his brother-in-law from reaching Kolkata, fearing his deception in marriage would be exposed. The email triggered heightened security measures at the airport, but investigations led to the arrest of Islam, who had stayed at a hotel in Kolkata. The police traced him through his interactions with another individual, Amardeep, who had arrived on the same flight from Delhi.
