Amroha: There is a village named Bawan Khedi in the Amroha district of western Uttar Pradesh, people here fear the name Shabnam and do not even mistakenly name their children Shabnam. Actually, these people feel that Shabnam is not a name but a stigma. 

The year of April was 2008, when a young woman named Shabnam, along with her lover Salim, killed her own family for love and wealth. There were seven people in Shabnam's family, including her two-year-old innocent nephew. She had beheaded everyone with an ax. Shabnam's uncle Sattar says Shabnam and her lover Salim are yet to be sentenced, while the Supreme Court has sentenced them. Their mercy petition was also rejected by the President, but even after this, both have not been punished. However, preparations are now being made to hang Shabnam and Jail RK Verma of Rampur has said that soon after the death warrant is issued, Shabnam will be sent to Mathura jail, where she will be hanged.

Ahmad, a Furkan of the village, says that whatever happened was wrong. This incident has also affected the hearts and minds of the people. For this reason, till date, no one has named his/her child Shabnam. A local resident told that people are afraid that such a case may not happen again, so they do not name their daughter Shabnam.
