Visakhapatnam: A major accident took place in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday (May 3). A bridge constructed over the Bahuda river near Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district has collapsed. Actually, a stone lorry weighing 70 tonnes was coming out from the top of the bridge, whose weight the bridge could not handle and then collapsed. However, there is no information about any loss of life or property in this bridge accident in Andhra Pradesh. At present, traffic has been disrupted due to the collapse of the bridge.

According to media reports, this bridge was built during the British period. Talking about the date of construction of the bridge, it has been told that it was constructed in 1929. In such a situation, the bridge which became the victim of the accident was about 94 years old. This bridge was a major route during the British period, as Ichchapuram town was connected to the national highway through it. It has been told that the local people had informed the authorities about the dilapidation of the bridge, but they ignored the warning.
It has been told that the accident happened on this bridge built on the Bahuda river at 6 am on Wednesday. A truck carrying stones weighing 70 tonnes was passing from here. Then the bridge collapsed due to its weight. Due to this accident, the bridge was divided into two parts. According to the information received, all the vehicles on the bridge fell into the river during the accident. Traffic has been affected due to the breakdown of the bridge and people are now facing problems in commuting.
