Dehradun, Uttarakhand: The prevailing relentless downpour in the north-eastern state of Uttarakhand has compelled the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority to institute a temporary halt to the ongoing Char Dham Yatra until Tuesday. This decision, made public on Monday, underscores the paramount importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of the pilgrims amidst these adverse weather conditions.

A directive from the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority issued on Monday reads, "In light of the disruptive impact of heavy rainfall-triggered landslides on traffic movement within Uttarakhand, the Char Dham Yatra shall be temporarily suspended on the 14th and 15th of August." This responsive measure aims to mitigate potential risks posed by the inclement weather.

The revered Char Dham Yatra encompasses four sacred shrines: Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The hallowed portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri were opened for devotees on April 22, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. Subsequently, the gates of the Kedarnath Dham were unveiled on April 25, followed by the opening of Badrinath Dham for pilgrims on April 27.
