HYDERABAD: The first session of the third Telangana Legislative Assembly commenced on Saturday with the swearing-in ceremony of numerous newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). The proceedings began with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy taking the oath, followed by Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

The oath-taking ceremony was overseen by AIMIM leader Akabruddin Owaisi. Notably, BJP MLAs chose not to take the oath in front of Owaisi.

In anticipation of the launch of the 'Maha Lakshmi free bus scheme,' adorned buses were showcased at the assembly premises to mark the commencement of this initiative. The first ticket for this scheme was presented to Athlete Nikhat Zareen, followed by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari.

Moreover, the Congress party officially assigned portfolios to the ministers who had been sworn in earlier in the week.

During a meeting held at Telangana Bhavan and chaired by BRS Secretary General K. Keshava Rao, the newly elected BRS legislators unanimously elected former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao as their party leader. Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy proposed KCR’s name as the legislative party leader, with Thalasani Srinivasa Yadav and Kadiam Srihari lending their support. The BRSLP adopted a unanimous resolution, delegating the responsibility of selecting the remaining members of the legislative party to KCR.

Securing 39 seats in the assembly elections, BRS emerged as the opposition party. In light of this, the party's MLAs convened to pass a resolution confirming their status as the opposition bloc.
