BANGALORE: A software engineer employed at a firm in Karnataka has been arrested by the Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in the recent breach of security at the Parliament. The detainee, identified as Saikrishna, hails from Bagalkote and is reportedly an acquaintance of one of the individuals who intruded into the Lok Sabha, causing a stir among Members of Parliament.

Authorities revealed that Saikrishna, the son of retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Vithala Jagali, was linked to Manoranjan D— one of the individuals who, along with Sagar Sharma, accessed the Lok Sabha Chamber on December 13, releasing yellow-colored smoke canisters inside the premises. This event caused widespread panic among the MPs and has since become a focal point in political discussions across the country.

Delhi Police acted swiftly, detaining Saikrishna from his residence in Bagalkote on Wednesday evening. Following initial questioning at the Navnagar police station, he was subsequently transported to the national capital for further investigation.

According to police sources, Saikrishna and Manoranjan were classmates at BIT Engineering College, Bengaluru, and even shared accommodation during the years 2008-2009. Notably, Manoranjan, originally from Mysuru, included Saikrishna's name in his diary after relocating to Delhi in 2012.

The breach, occurring on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, involved Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber during Zero Hour, deploying yellow gas from canisters, and voicing anti-establishment slogans before being subdued by MPs. In a separate incident outside Parliament, two protesters, Neelam (42) and Amol (25), also used similar gas canisters. All four individuals, charged under the anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, were placed in the custody of the Delhi Police Special Cell on December 14, set to expire today. Authorities are expected to seek an extension of their custody.

In the aftermath of the incident, Delhi Police made additional arrests, apprehending Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat. Lalit Jha was remanded to seven-day police custody by a Delhi court on December 15 for further interrogation.
