Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a festive bonus and ex-gratia for 2.75 lakh employees of state public sector undertakings (PSUs) and statutory boards for the fiscal year 2023-24. According to the announcement, eligible workers of profit-making PSUs in Group C and D will receive a minimum bonus of ₹8,400 and a maximum of ₹16,800. This includes an 8.33% bonus and an 11.67% ex-gratia payment, as per an official release.
For employees of PSUs that do not have surplus funds, the bonus will be 8.33%, with an additional ex-gratia of 1.67%. The total cost of this initiative to the government is expected to be ₹369.65 crore.
The workers and employees of key state entities such as TANGEDCO, state transport undertakings, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, and the Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation will receive a combined 20% bonus and ex-gratia. Meanwhile, employees in Group C and D of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Drainage Board will receive a 10% bonus and ex-gratia.
Additionally, workers of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board will be paid an 8.33% bonus, while employees of the Civil Supplies Corporation will receive an ex-gratia of ₹3,000.
The chief minister emphasized that the gesture was aimed at recognizing the contributions of PSU workers to the state’s development and economic growth, providing motivation during the festive season. A separate order will be issued regarding bonuses and ex-gratia for employees of cooperative institutions and other organizations.
