Actress Swara Bhaskar's husband and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Fahad Ahmed has said goodbye to the Samajwadi Party. On Sunday, he announced to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP - Sharad Pawar faction). He has been fielded against NCP (Ajit Pawar) candidate Sana Malik from Mumbai's Anushakti Nagar seat.
Fahad Ahmed joins NCP
In a press conference, NCP leader Jayant Patil informed about Fahad joining the party. He said, "Fahad Ahmed is an educated and aware youth leader, who has been active in social work for a long time. There is also a demand from the public to give such youth a chance in politics. Fahad was earlier in the Samajwadi Party, but after a discussion between us, he has decided to become a part of the NCP." He also informed that Fahad has been given a ticket as the party candidate from Anushakti Nagar assembly seat.
Fahad will contest elections from Anushakti Nagar
On his candidature from Anushakti Nagar seat, Fahad Ahmed said that he thanks NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who has made him the candidate after taking permission from SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. He said, "Sharad Pawar ji is also a socialist leader. I express my gratitude to him that he talked to Akhilesh Yadav and decided to declare me as the NCP-SCP candidate." Fahad Ahmed has earlier been the Maharashtra state president of Samajwadi Yuvajan Sabha, the youth wing of SP.
NCP's preparations for Maharashtra elections
The NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) has recently released the second list of 22 candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held on November 20. Announcing the 22 names, Jayant Patil said that the party is contesting the elections under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. This alliance includes NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), which have divided 255 seats. The three parties have got 85-85 seats, while 23 seats will be given to other candidates.
Election schedule
Voting for all 288 seats of Maharashtra Assembly will be held in a single phase on November 20 and the results will be declared on November 23.
