KOLKATA: A bomb scare unfolded near Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday, September 12, when a suspicious bag was discovered close to the premises. Authorities acted quickly, deploying a bomb disposal unit and a dog squad. The area was cordoned off as security personnel investigated the contents of the bag to ensure public safety.

During the doctors' protest at RG Kar Hospital, panic spread when an unclaimed bag was found at the protest site. The Kolkata Police quickly called in the bomb squad, and safety measures were immediately put in place to secure the area.

Protesting doctors and others in the vicinity were evacuated while the bomb squad carried out detailed inspections. Although investigations are still underway, no information has been confirmed yet about the bag's contents or any possible threat. Security at the protest site has been increased as a precaution.

The discovery occurred as junior doctors continue their protests, seeking justice for a colleague who was allegedly raped and murdered. Tensions have been rising since August 9, when the body of a postgraduate trainee was found at the hospital, showing signs of severe injuries.

Protests at RG Kar Medical College:

As the situation escalates, the state government invited the protesting doctors for a meeting at Nabanna, the state secretariat, on Wednesday. Junior doctors have been firm in their demands for justice, calling for stronger security measures for female medical professionals. They are also pushing for the suspension of several officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the state health secretary, accusing them of mismanaging the case.

The case is currently being investigated by the CBI, following the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
