Shillong: The Meghalaya government has banned entry into the state of people coming from the European country amid fears of a new type of corona (strain) that unfolded in the United Kingdom. According to the official order, the Government has urged the people coming through Britain or that country to remain separate and inform the Government about their travel.
Chief Secretary M.S. Rao said in an order released on Wednesday that the entry of all tourists coming from Britain is banned in the state with immediate effect in view of the more infectious new 'strain' of the corona. He said, "all those who have come to the state in the last four weeks (November 25 to December 23, 2020) through the UK will have to inform the state monitoring unit and conduct an RT-PCR investigation. ''
He also appealed to the people to put masks and follow corona guidelines when they leave the house. Official sources said, five people have been traced and health workers are in touch with the recent British authorities. In Meghalaya, so far 13,298 cases of Covid-19 have been registered and 135 people have died.
