New Delhi: Passengers traveling from Delhi to Goa on a SpiceJet flight experienced significant delays at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Saturday, leading to a harrowing ordeal. The Delhi-Goa flight SG-211 faced operational delays due to a technical issue with the aircraft initially scheduled to operate the flight, causing it to be grounded, according to the airline.
Originally scheduled to depart at 9:35 am, passengers of SpiceJet flight SG-211 encountered multiple rescheduling announcements. The departure was first postponed to 10:35 am, then to 11 am, but even by 11 am, the flight had not taken off. As frustrations grew, passengers sought answers from the airline staff and were eventually informed that the flight would now depart at 4 pm. Among the frustrated travelers was a passenger with family members, including senior citizens and children, who expressed dismay over the lack of arrangements and the extended wait at the airport.
"We have hotel bookings and other plans in Goa, but everything is ruined because of SpiceJet. Last-minute flight tickets on other airlines are very expensive and it's not feasible to purchase for eight people," the passenger lamented. Passengers reported that the airline staff mentioned a flight arriving from Jammu at 3:35 pm, which would then depart for Goa at 4 pm. However, no refreshments were provided during the prolonged wait.
In a statement, SpiceJet explained that the flight delay was due to operational reasons as the aircraft scheduled for the flight had to be grounded due to a technical issue. The airline assured that an alternate aircraft was being arranged to operate the flight and that refreshments were being served to the passengers. "Inconvenience caused to the passengers is deeply regretted," the airline stated.
