Mumbai: A 16-year-old boy allegedly murdered his eight-year-old next-door neighbor in Palghar district of Maharashtra, reportedly driven by resentment over teasing. The incident unfolded on December 1 in Pelhar village, and the crime was revealed when the girl's body was discovered three days later. The boy was apprehended in Jalna district, and his father was arrested for attempting to dispose of the victim's body.
The girl, missing since December 1 after leaving home to buy ice cream, prompted her family to file a missing person's report. A search operation ensued, but her decomposed body was found on December 4 in a plastic bag in an unoccupied room in the same chawl. The police registered a case under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping), 302 (murder), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) against unidentified persons.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the 16-year-old boy from the same chawl had gone missing since the body's discovery. Further probing revealed his involvement in the crime, and he confessed to strangulating the girl. The motive was attributed to his annoyance with the victim's teasing, and he seized an opportunity on December 1 when she was alone at night. Unsure of what to do with the body, he kept it hidden in their house for two days before confiding in his father. The father and son duo later moved the body to an unoccupied room in their chawl.
The police found the girl's slippers at the entrance of the accused persons' room, leading to suspicions about their involvement. It was also revealed that the father sent his son to his hometown in Jalna district after the body's discovery. The police detained the boy from Jalna and brought him back to Pelhar. The investigation is ongoing.
