New Delhi: Delhi Police has recovered a saw from Aftab Amin Poonawalla's rented flat in Chhatarpur. The saw was recovered from Poonawalla's first-floor flat four-five days ago, and has been sent for forensic examination, the police official said. Investigators suspect that it could be the weapon with which the accused chopped Shraddha Walker's body into pieces after killing her. This incident has shaken the entire country. The police are yet to find concrete evidence in the case.
After interrogation, the police found a saw during a search at Aftab's house, the official said. For the moment, it cannot be confirmed that it is the same weapon he used in the crime unless it is scientifically examined by forensic experts. Poonawalla has informed the police that he strangled his live-in partner Shraddha Walker to death in a fit of rage on the evening of May 18. There was a dispute between the two about going to Delhi from Maharashtra.
Aftab had told the police that he killed Shraddha Walker six months ago, cutting her body into at least 35 pieces for two days. The incident came to light on Monday. The accused had kept the pieces of the body in the fridge for three months and dumped them one by one in different parts of south Delhi.
Apart from Aftab's confession and a series of circumstantial evidence, the police investigation has not found any concrete evidence. Investigators have recovered 13 pieces of bones from nearby forests and found some blood stains in the flat. However, it is yet to be proved that these blood stains and bones belong to Shraddha. In such a situation, the recovery of the saw can be important. If the forensic examination proves that shraddha's body was cut into pieces through this, then the police can get the first concrete evidence.
