Dehradun: Police in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district have filed a case against five individuals, including a retired IAS officer, in relation to the murder of the dera kar seva chief at the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara. Baba Tarsem Singh was fatally shot on the shrine's premises by two assailants on Thursday.

The FIR, lodged on Friday, names the two attackers - Sarabjit Singh and Amarjeet Singh - along with IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh, who heads the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Baba Anup Singh, and Pritam Singh Sandhu, the vice-president of a regional Sikh outfit, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC.

Sarabjit Singh is a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab, while Amarjeet Singh is from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. Both have been charged under sections 302 (murder), 120b (criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, confirmed the SSP.

Additionally, three others, including the retired IAS officer, have been implicated in the FIR based on suspicions raised by the complainant, stated the SSP.

The incident occurred when Baba Tarsem Singh was seated in a chair on the gurdwara's premises and was shot with a rifle by one of the assailants riding pillion. He was rushed to a hospital in Khatima for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. The Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara, situated approximately 50 km from Rudrapur, holds significant reverence among Sikh devotees and is located on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route in Udham Singh Nagar district.
