On Monday too, the hopes of getting treatment in hospitals appear bleak as the resident doctors' strike continues even after a week. The doctors' meeting with officials of the Union Health Ministry remained inconclusive, due to which there seems to be no possibility of the strike ending.
Doctors' demands and meeting
A meeting of doctors was held at Nirman Bhawan under the chairmanship of FIMA President Dr. Rohan Krishnan. In this, the doctors put forward four major demands. They stressed the urgent need to establish a Central Protection Act (CPA) Committee and made a formal request to the Home Ministry for this.
unanimous decision
After meetings with health ministry officials remained inconclusive, FIMA organised an all-India meeting with 70 representatives of Resident Doctors Associations (RDA) from 25 states. It was decided in the meeting that the strike will continue until their demands are addressed. Another meeting with health ministry officials is planned on Monday.
status of treatment in hospitals
Due to the strike, the treatment situation in hospitals is critical. Faculty doctors will treat patients in hospitals on Monday, but due to their small number, it is difficult for all patients to get proper treatment. Due to the strike, previously scheduled surgeries have been cancelled and patients are being called for surgery on a new date. Surgeries have been affected in AIIMS, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Lady Harding Hospital and other major hospitals.
Long wait in OPD
On Monday, patients may have to wait longer to get treatment in the OPD. According to the hospital administration, due to the strike, faculty doctors will treat patients only in a few rooms, due to which patients may have to wait longer. The number of patients in the OPD has also increased due to seasonal diseases.
Disputes with doctors
On Saturday night, incidents of dispute with doctors were reported in Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Ambedkar Hospital. During treatment in Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, relatives beat up a junior doctor. In RML, patients were insisting on getting admitted even after being discharged, due to which there was a heated argument with the doctors. In Ambedkar Hospital too, there was a dispute between the doctor and the patient regarding treatment.
