Guntur: Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu has made history as the youngest-ever Union Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet 3.0. At just 36 years old, he secured victory for the third consecutive time from Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections, defeating his opponent by a significant margin of 3.2 lakh votes.
Rammohan Naidu follows in the footsteps of his father, the late Yerran Naidu, a senior TDP leader who became the youngest Minister at age 39 in 1996. Yerran Naidu, affectionately known as 'Yerranna,' served in the cabinets of Deve Gowda and IK Gujaral in the United Front Government from 1996-1998. He was a four-time Member of Parliament and held the position of TDP's Parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha until his untimely passing in a road accident in 2012.
Having entered politics in 2012, Rammohan Naidu has established himself as one of the staunchest loyalists to TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu. He previously served as the National General Secretary of the Chandrababu-led party.
Rammohan Naidu holds an MBA degree and an engineering degree from the US, completing his schooling at the Delhi Public School in RK Puram. His political journey began in 2014 when he won the Lok Sabha MP seat from Srikakulam at the age of 26, emerging as the second youngest MP in the 16th Lok Sabha. In the outgoing Lok Sabha, he served as the TDP's floor leader.
In addition to his parliamentary duties, Rammohan Naidu has been actively involved in various committees, including the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing, the Standing Committees on Railways and Home Affairs, and the Consultative Committee on the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. He was honored with the Sansad Ratna Award in 2020 for his outstanding performance as an MP.
Rammohan Naidu's advocacy for gender rights and education has been notable, evidenced by his decision to take paternity leave during the 2021 budget sessions for his wife's pregnancy. He has been a vocal supporter of menstrual health education and sex education in parliament and has campaigned for the removal of GST on sanitary pads.
