JAIPUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is moving closer to securing victory in Rajasthan, currently leading towards the majority mark in the state according to the latest trends from the Election Commission of India.
Meanwhile, the Congress is currently holding 72 seats, the Bharat Adivasi Party (BHRTADVSIP) is leading by four seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has secured two seats, and Independents are leading in nine seats.
The Rajasthan Assembly Election of 2023 took place on November 25, aiming to elect 199 out of the 200 candidates. Unfortunately, Gurmeet Singh Kooner, the Congress leader and MLA from Karanpur, Rajasthan, passed away a week before the scheduled polls, leading to the postponement of the election for that constituency. To secure a majority in the assembly, a minimum of 101 seats out of the total 200 was required.
The pre-election exit polls for Rajasthan's 2023 Assembly depicted a closely contested battle. Several forecasts hinted at the likelihood of the BJP taking over from the Congress, consistent with the state's historical trend of alternating power between the two parties. However, a combined analysis suggested the possibility of a hung assembly, with neither the BJP nor the Congress securing a clear majority. The predictions showed a tight race, with the BJP potentially securing 91-92 seats and the Congress 93-94.
The diversity in the exit polls resulted in a range of outcomes. ABP-CVoter forecasted 94-114 seats for the BJP and 71-91 for Congress. Jan Ki Baat predicted a BJP victory with 100-122 seats.
