In preparation for the upcoming festive season, the Punjab government has announced public holidays on October 2 and 3 to honor Gandhi Jayanti and Aggarsen Jayanti.

These holidays fall on Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in closures for schools, colleges, banks, and government offices throughout the state. The announcement is timely, as the festivities kick off with Navratra, which begins on October 3, coinciding with Maharaja Aggarsen Jayanti.

Following these celebrations, Dussehra will be observed on October 12, and the month will continue with Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and Diwali, the latter of which is celebrated on October 31 this year.

These festivals are expected to create a vibrant atmosphere across Punjab, enhancing the spirit of celebration throughout the month.

Know About Valmiki Jayanti

Valmiki Jayanti is a significant Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Sage Valmiki, the revered author of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana. Valmiki is often regarded as the "Adi Kavi" or the first poet, as he is credited with composing the Ramayana in Sanskrit, which narrates the life of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his loyal companion Hanuman. Celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Ashwin (September-October), Valmiki Jayanti is observed with devotion and reverence, especially among followers of Hinduism. Devotees engage in prayers, recite verses from the Ramayana, and hold cultural programs to honor Sage Valmiki's contributions to literature and spirituality. The day serves as a reminder of the values of dharma, devotion, and righteousness that Valmiki epitomized throughout his life.
