PUDUCHERRY: Despite the finding of two Omicron cases in Puducherry, the Union Territory's administration has allowed New Year's celebrations to take place under strict Covid-19 guidelines.

Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan of Puducherry has ordered the administration to take strong action in this respect. In a statement, the Lt. Governor stated that Puducherry has a thriving tourism economy, and that the administration is attempting to strike a balance between limiting the spread of the disease and not causing undue hardship to individuals employed in the field.

The Union Territory will send teams made up of health, revenue, and police officials to oversee the festivities and ensure that attendance at each venue is within the sanctioned capacity. Random testing will be conducted by the health department, and individuals who are symptomatic will not be permitted to access the venues.

The administration of Puducherry has also planned a three-day big celebration for the New Year. A big number of tourists from north Indian states and even from other countries have already arrived in the Union Territory, and nearly all of Puducherry's hotels and resorts are fully booked.
