Bangalore: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for turning Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean and self-reliant India into reality. His remarks came during a visit to the Center for Excellence at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore on October 2, where he honored Gandhi and participated in the Swachh Bharat Divas event.
During the event, Kumaraswamy held a broom used by civic workers, known as pourakarmikas, and joined HMT Chairman Rajesh Kohli, senior officials, and scientists in cleaning the premises. He also planted a tree sapling and handed out certificates to pourakarmikas for their participation, engaging with them and taking photographs.
Kumaraswamy explored an advanced all-terrain vehicle designed for challenging environments at the HMT Art Park in Bengaluru.
In a post on social media platform X, Kumaraswamy emphasized, “As we celebrate 10 years of the Swachh Bharat Mission on Swachh Bharat Diwas, we reflect on Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals during his 155th birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary initiative has made Gandhi Ji's dream of a clean and self-reliant India a reality. This national movement for cleanliness has united millions in the mission for a Swachh, Sundar, and Samarth Bharat."
He noted the significant achievements over the past decade, including the construction of millions of toilets, a major reduction in open defecation, and improved sanitation standards, all of which empower communities and enhance dignity.
"This mission goes beyond cleanliness—it’s about changing mindsets, promoting hygiene, and building a sustainable future for everyone," Kumaraswamy added. "On this special day, let us honor Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and continue to follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a cleaner, greener, and more resilient India. Together, we can create a Swachh Bharat for generations to come."
