NEW DELHI: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) tomorrow,  January 3.  It is expected to focus on ways to increase the representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and offer them with equal access to STEM education, research and economic participation, keeping in line with the Year 2013 theme of “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment”.

The inaugural address will begin at 9.30 am, and the event is being hosted by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) at its Amravati Road Campus.

\The event's "Pride of India" mega-expo is a major draw. The exhibition, which brings together and presents hundreds of new ideas, technologies, and products across the whole canvas of the scientific world, will highlight the notable advancements, big successes, and substantial contributions mostly of Indian Science and Technology to the society.
Pride of India showcases the accomplishments and strengths of the nation's innovators, business owners, PSUs, academic institutions, and research and development organisations.

Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Maharashtra Public Universities, Bhagat Singh Koshyari; Union Minister and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of RTMNU Centenary Celebrations, Nitin Gadkari; Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology & Earth Sciences, Jitendra Singh; Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde; and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendri; are among the prominent dignitaries

The university's Mahatma Jotiba Phule Educational Campus has separated the technical sessions into 14 parts, each of which will host parallel sessions at several locations.

Apart from these 14 divisions, there will be a section on science and society, a science communicators' congress, a farmers' science congress, a children's science congress, a tribal meet, and a women's science congress.

Experts and technocrats from a wide range of sectors, including space, defence, IT, and medical research, as well as Nobel Laureates will speak at the Plenary Sessions. The technical sessions will present ground-breaking and applied research in the fields of agriculture and forestry sciences, animal, veterinary, and fisheries sciences, anthropological and behavioural sciences, chemical, earth system, engineering, environmental, information and communication science & technology, material, and mathematical sciences, as well as medical, physical, and plant sciences.
