Guwahati: In a significant development boost for Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled infrastructure projects worth Rs 11,600 crore in the state. The projects, a mix of state and centrally funded initiatives, were introduced at a ceremony held at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, Guwahati. Some notable projects include the Kamakhya temple corridor (Rs 498 crore), a six-lane road from the new airport terminal in Guwahati (Rs 358 crore), the upgrade of Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards (Rs 831 crore), and a new sports complex in Chandrapur (Rs 300 crore).

Addressing the audience during the inauguration, PM Modi emphasized his government's commitment to simplifying the lives of every individual in the country. He asserted that the various schemes launched by the BJP's dual-engine government at the central and state levels would benefit every "labharti" (beneficiary). Modi highlighted the establishment of premier educational institutions like IITs and IIMs across the country, including Assam. He noted that before the BJP government, Assam had only six medical colleges, but now there are 12, making the state a significant hub for cancer treatment in the North-East.

PM Modi underscored the BJP government's focus on Assam's development, citing a record number of tourists visiting the state in the last decade as proof. He pointed out the substantial improvement in air and road connectivity in Assam, highlighting the government's commitment to the region's development. Modi emphasized that the recent budget allocated Rs 11 lakh crore for infrastructure development across the country. In a comparison, he mentioned that the UPA government under former PM Manmohan Singh spent Rs 12 lakh crore on infrastructure in 10 years, whereas the current government is investing a similar amount in just one year.

The Prime Minister also noted positive changes in the north-east, highlighting the region's transition from a history of violence to a focus on development. He mentioned the removal of AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) in many areas, with violence-hit regions now on the path to progress, and the government actively supporting these efforts.
