New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Jamaican counterpart, Andrew Holness, in New Delhi on Tuesday. This meeting was followed by delegation-level talks between the two leaders.
The Jamaican Prime Minister, on his first official visit to India, arrived in the country on September 30 and will be in India until October 3. This marks the first-ever bilateral visit of a Jamaican Prime Minister to India.
Earlier in the day, Holness paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by offering floral respects at Rajghat. The Ministry of External Affairs shared images of the tribute, noting the Jamaican PM’s homage to the "Father of the Nation."
Holness was welcomed by India’s Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, upon his arrival in New Delhi. The two nations have longstanding historical and cultural connections, with shared values of democracy, freedom, and a mutual passion for cricket.
This visit is focussed to strengthen bilateral ties, enhance economic cooperation, and further deepen the relationship between Jamaica and India.
India and Jamaica have a rich historical and cultural relationship, stemming from their shared colonial past and values of democracy and freedom, along with a mutual love for cricket. This visit aims to strengthen these ties, boost economic collaboration, and reinforce the longstanding relationship between Jamaica and India.
Earlier this year, on June 5, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed gratitude to Jamaica's Foreign Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, for her congratulations to Prime Minister Modi on his victory in the Lok Sabha elections. She expressed hope for continued collaboration on issues vital to the Global South.
