New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Cabinet's approval of six multi-tracking projects for the Indian Railways, totaling Rs 12,343 crore, on February 8. He emphasized that these projects would significantly enhance transportation efficiency and alleviate congestion on busy railway networks. Taking to his official social media account, PM Modi stated, "Today's Cabinet decision regarding the Railways sector will bolster infrastructure, alleviate congestion on busy routes, and enhance commerce and connectivity." The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by PM Modi, greenlit these railway transportation projects across six states earlier in the day.
These projects, fully funded by the Union Government, aim to streamline operations, reduce congestion, and facilitate crucial infrastructural development on some of the country's busiest rail sections. According to an official statement, the approved projects span 18 districts across Rajasthan, Assam, Telangana, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Nagaland. These projects will extend the Indian Railways network by 1020 kilometers and are expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately three crore man-days in the respective states.
The proposed routes include 178.28 kilometers of Ajmer-Chanderiya and 131.27 kilometers of Jaipur-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, 271.97 kilometers of Luni-Samdari-Bhildi in Gujarat and Rajasthan, 7.062 kilometers of Agthori-Kamakhya with a new Rail cum Road Bridge in Assam, 140 kilometers of Lumding-Furkating in Assam and Nagaland, and 88.81 kilometers of Motumari-Vishnupuram and Rail over Rail at Motumari in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh.
