The Corporate Affairs Ministry has announced that aspiring interns under the newly launched PM Internship Scheme will be required to have an Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication to participate. The PM Internship Scheme provides one year of professional experience in leading companies across India.
Possessing an Aadhaar number is mandatory due to the scheme’s expenditure structure, as payouts will be made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The internship offers a one-time assistance of Rs.6,000 and a monthly stipend of Rs.5,000, with Rs.4,500 funded by the government and Rs.500 from corporate CSR funds.
For those without an Aadhaar number, the government will ask participants to apply for Aadhaar enrollment if they wish to receive benefits under the scheme. Interns will also be covered under government insurance schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
Until an Aadhaar number is issued, individuals can still receive benefits by providing an Aadhaar enrollment identification slip along with official documents like a PAN card, passport, voter ID, ration card, or driving license.
Internship opportunities have surged on the PM Internship Scheme portal, reaching nearly 50,000 openings, a significant rise from 16,000 just days earlier. The portal, open since October 3, has seen over 130 companies, including major names from industries like motor, finance, and technology, post internships.
These internships are available across 650 districts, covering all 36 States and Union Territories. Opportunities span 22 sectors, with a focus on oil, gas, energy, travel, and hospitality, among others. Fields such as operations management, manufacturing, sales, and marketing are also available.
