JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to pay tribute to the 1,500 tribal people who were slain 109 years ago in Mangarh Dham, during his visit to Rajasthan on Tuesday.

After that, the PM will address a large public meeting to be attended by around 1 lakh people.

During PM's 'Mann ki Baat' programme on Sunday, he had spoken about the significance of Mangarh Dham.

"The tribal community serves Mother Earth and the tribal society guards the natural world. They should teach everyone how to safeguard the environment "He said. He also brought up the 1913 episode in Mangarh, where British authority resulted in the deaths of 1500 tribal people. He is expected to address a sizable throng in Mangarh Dham on Tuesday and declare this "dham" a national monument.

Modi will attend the Mangarh Dham event along with the chief ministers of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupendra Patel, and Shivraj Chouhan. One of the primary organisers of this event is the BJP.

The incident will have an impact on the tribal majority of 99 Assembly seats in these three states. The borders of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan converge in Mangarh. The locals venerate the tribal groups in these states.
Chief Minister Gehlot began bringing up the idea of designating Mangarh as a national monument before Modi's arrival. In this context, he just sent the Prime Minister two letters.

Mangarh Dham is a hilltop structure situated in the Banswara district. A portion of the hill is included in Rajasthan, while another portion is part of Gujarat. A tribal chieftain by the name of Govind Guru had taken part in the independence movement against British control in this hilly region.

In 1913, the British government surrounded him and his tribal companions on this Dham and massacred about 1500 tribals. Mangarh Dham is built in his memory.
