New Delhi: So far 21 people have been arrested in connection with the attack on Hanuman Jayanti procession by a Muslim mob in Jahangirpuri area of ​​the country's capital Delhi on Saturday evening. While filing a petition in the Supreme Court regarding this matter, the intervention of the Chief Justice (CJI) has been sought. Advocate Amritpal Singh Khalsa has filed a letter petition before the apex court seeking suo motu cognizance and ordering a court-monitored inquiry into the Jahangirpuri violence.
It is noteworthy that on Saturday, the Hanuman Jayanti procession was attacked by Muslims. According to the police, stones were pelted and several vehicles were torched during the violence. Several people, including several policemen, were injured in the violence. An uneasy calm prevailed in northwest Delhi, a day after stones were pelted during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri, though police are probing the matter from all angles.
The Delhi Police on Sunday said it was probing "a bigger conspiracy" behind the incident. So far, 23 people, including two minors, have been arrested by the police in the case. Police have identified two prime suspects Ansar and Aslam and arrested them.
