Ayodhya: The Uttar Pradesh government will light 12 lakh earthen lamps in this city, with nine lakh of them being lit on the banks of the Saryu River, breaking the previous Diwali record. Last year, during the "Deepotsav," over six lakh earthen lamps were lit to commemorate the festival, setting a world record.

The staging of Ram Lilas, a 3D holographic display, laser show, and fireworks will be part of the five-day-long celebrations, which begin Monday, according to a government statement. On November 3 from 6 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., nine lakh lamps will be lit along the river's banks, with the remaining three lakh in various parts of town, according to the statement. A Sri Lankan cultural group has been invited to perform the Ram Lila, which will be followed by a series of literary and cultural events from November 1 to 5.

A team from Nepal's Janakpur will perform the Ram Lila on Monday, with teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Assam, Karnataka, and West Bengal also performing during the five-day celebrations. On November 3, the day of the "Deepotsav," Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandi Ben Patel will receive Lord Ram, Laxman, and Sita symbolically from a "pushpak viman," a chopper, at Ram Katha Park in Ayodhya, according to District Magistrate Nitish Kumar. "Saryu aarti" will also be performed by the CM.
