NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court granted bail to former NSE MD & CEO, Chitra Ramkrishna on 9 February in a money laundering case related to alleged illegal phone tapping and snooping of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) employees.

Justice Jasmeet Singh pronounced the order. The former NSE managing director, who had already been detained by the CBI in connection with the suspected NSE co-location scam, was taken into custody in the current case on July 14, 2022.

She had previously granted bail to Chitra Ramkrishna and former group operating officer Anand Subramanian in the CBI-investigated co-location scam case. A Delhi court granted her bail in a case involving the alleged illegal phone tapping of NSE workers in December 2022. Ramkrishna was granted bail by Special Judge Sunena Sharma on the condition of posting a personal bond of one lakh rupees with two sureties of equal value.

The ED said, the  phone tapping case,  pertained to a period from 2009 to 2017 when former NSE CEO Ravi Narain, Ramkrishna, Executive Vice-President Ravi Varanasi, and Head (Premises) Mahesh Haldipur and others conspired to cheat NSE and its staff members and for the purpose, engaged iSEC Services Pvt Ltd for illegal interception of phone calls of employees of the NSE in the guise of doing periodic study of cyber vulnerabilities of the NSE.

Ramkrishna had requested bail and contended that the allegations against her had not been proven to be a scheduled offence and did not meet the requirements of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Ramkrishna served as Joint MD NSE from 2009 until March 31, 2013, when he was appointed to the role. The first of April 2013 saw her promoted as MD and CEO. She departed NSE in December 2016.
