JAIPUR: The Non-Resident Rajasthani (NRR) policy of the Rajasthan government is intended to grant NRR cards to the diaspora in the state, which would act as a special privilege under the leadership of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress.
On October 7, during the opening session of the two-day "Invest Rajasthan" Summit in Jaipur, Chief Minister Gehlot unveiled the state's first NRR policy. He asked NRRs to maintain ties to their motherland during the session.
The Rajasthan Foundation, which was established by the state government in 2001, will get around one lakh NRRs under the NRR policy, which was developed on the basis of the Five-C philosophy of connect, culture, community, caring, and contribution.
A number of initiatives are planned under the NRR policy, including "Pravasi Mitra," in which NRRs would be appointed in various countries, who would provide strategic mentoring and guidance to people of their land who want to move abroad for study, work, or travel. "Mhari Dani" is a flagship scheme of the government through which the NRRS will be able to contribute voluntarily to development works in towns and villages.
A Pravasi Rajasthani Kendra will be set up in Jaipur as part of the policy, and NRR cells will be established throughout the districts. There is also a plan to build "Rajasthani Pravasi Bhawans" in a few foreign and domestic towns.
State Industries Minister Shakuntala Rawat stated the new NRR strategy intends to involve NRRs in the economic, social, and cultural growth of the state and devise strategies to establish a mutually beneficial relationship with them.
The NRR policy, according to Dhiraj Shrivastava, Commissioner, Rajasthan Foundation, will "sustain the expression of 'Rajasthaniyat', the Rajasthani identity through generations" and enhance the bond between NRRs and their home state.
The Gehlot-led administration also intends to recognise and honour "exceptional" NRRs annually at an occasion planned for the Rajasthani diaspora.
As part of putting the NRR policy into practise, various schemes, programmes, and guidelines pertaining to each endeavour will be announced or launched soon.
