NOIDA: As the Kanwar Yatra begins, key roads in Noida and Ghaziabad are expected to experience significant traffic disruptions starting Saturday, due to new restrictions and diversions. These measures will remain in place until the evening of August 5.

In Noida, two lanes at the Kalindi Kunj border leading out of Delhi have been closed to facilitate the movement of pilgrims. This stretch, running between the Okhla barrage and the bird sanctuary, will see these closures. In Ghaziabad, private cars and light goods vehicles heading towards Meerut will be rerouted from the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) via NH-9 and Hapur. Notably, heavy vehicles have been banned from the DME since July 22.

These restrictions at the Okhla border are expected to create congestion on the alternative routes leading into Delhi, potentially causing lengthy delays during peak hours.

Enhanced Security for Kanwar Yatris

In addition to the local police and Rapid Action Force (RAF), the district administration has also deployed Uttar Pradesh’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) commandos along the Kanwar route. This move aims to ensure the safety of pilgrims traveling from Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and various districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh reported that ATS commandos have been stationed at Shiv Chowk in Muzaffarnagar, a key checkpoint for yatris returning from Haridwar. Sensitive areas around Shiv Chowk have been secured by ATS personnel to prevent any incidents.

In total, the security arrangement includes a team of RAF, six Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) teams, and ATS commandos, ensuring robust protection for the Kanwar Yatra.

The Kanwar Yatra officially commenced on July 22, with these measures in place to manage both traffic and security efficiently.
