AMARAVATI: Police claimed nine private Volvo buses were entirely destroyed in a massive fire in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district, on Tuesday.

The accident happened near the Ongole Urban Development Authority (OUDA) Complex, where private tour operators had parked their cars. With the support of six fire tenders, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze. Water tanks were also dispatched by the local officials to put out the fire. The massive flames that engulfed the buses caused terror among those in the surrounding communities.

According to a police official, firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to 20 other buses parked nearby. Kaveri Travels owned all of the buses that were destroyed in the fire. The loss is expected to be in the region of Rs 6 crore.

Due to the decline in demand caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, the operator reported they had parked buses there. The cause of the fire remained unknown at the time. The event has prompted police to launch an inquiry.
