Guntur: Senior IAS officer Neerabh Kumar Prasad has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary to the government of Andhra Pradesh, succeeding Dr. KS Jawahar Reddy. This decision was conveyed through official orders issued on Friday.

Neerabh Kumar Prasad, a seasoned bureaucrat from the 1987 batch of the IAS, previously held the position of Special Chief Secretary to the Government in the Environment, Forest, Science & Technology Department. He now assumes the role of Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, as per an official release. Meanwhile, the outgoing Chief Secretary, Dr. KS Jawahar Reddy, who was on leave, has been transferred without a new assignment designated for him.

The appointment of Neerabh Kumar Prasad comes in the wake of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N Chandrababu Naidu, securing a resounding victory in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections. The TDP, along with its allies, the Janasena Party led by Pawan Kalyan and the BJP, secured a combined total of 164 seats out of 175 in the assembly, reaffirming their dominance. In contrast, the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) managed to secure only 11 seats.

Following the electoral outcome, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy tendered his resignation on Tuesday. Subsequently, the governor accepted his resignation and requested him to serve as caretaker Chief Minister until the new government assumes office.
