The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy has revealed the names of the 50 teachers who will receive the prestigious National Teachers’ Awards 2024. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, with President Draupadi Murmu presenting the honors.

Selection Process and Purpose

The teachers were selected through a rigorous three-stage process involving district, state, and national evaluations. The National Teachers’ Award aims to recognize and celebrate educators who have significantly enhanced the quality of education and positively impacted their students' lives.

"The National Teachers’ Award acknowledges the invaluable contributions of teachers who, through their unwavering commitment, have elevated educational standards and enriched students' lives," stated the Ministry of Education.

Prize Money and Benefits

Awardees will receive a certificate of merit, a cash prize of ₹50,000, and a silver medal. They will also have the chance to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 50 recipients include teachers from 28 states, 3 union territories, and 6 different organizations. Among them are 34 men and 16 women, with two teachers being differently-abled and one specializing in working with children with special needs (CWSN).

The ministry also highlighted that 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and 16 from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be honored.

Regional Highlights

Teachers from across India, including those from Karnataka, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, and Bihar, have been recognized. Karnataka leads with four teachers on the list, followed by Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, educators from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship are among the awardees.
