Mumbai is bracing for intense weather conditions on August 3, with heavy rains and strong winds sweeping across the city. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for today, signaling potential weather disruptions.
Over the next two days, the monsoon showers are expected to be light to moderate. However, the weather is set to intensify on August 4, with heavy rainfall anticipated in the evening and night. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also issued a high tide alert. According to their update on X, the high tide timings are 11:47 AM (4.28 meters) and 11:37 PM (3.66 meters), while low tide will occur at 5:52 PM (1.70 meters) and 5:38 AM on August 4 (0.75 meters).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Palghar, Thane, and Raigad, effective until August 6. The forecast predicts moderate rain at isolated locations in Palghar, Nasik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg over the next few hours.
Additionally, Pune and Satara have been placed under a red alert for extremely heavy rain.
IMD Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra announced that India is likely to experience normal to above-normal rains in August and September, due to developing La Niña conditions. This is expected to benefit the country's agriculture and overall economy. "In August, monsoon rains are predicted to be between 94-106 percent of the long-period average," Mohapatra stated at a press conference.
