Mumbai: Milind Deora officially announced his resignation from the Congress party on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in his political journey. In a statement, he expressed gratitude to party leaders, colleagues, and supporters for their unwavering support, acknowledging the conclusion of his family's 55-year association with the party.

Dispelling rumors about a potential shift to the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deora clarified that he was engaged in discussions with his supporters but had not reached a final decision. While expressing dissatisfaction with the Shiv Sena's claim to the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency, which he had represented before 2014, Deora emphasized ongoing discussions with his supporters. He dismissed media reports suggesting his move to Shiv Sena as mere rumors.

Responding to Shiv Sena's assertion on the Mumbai South constituency for the upcoming general elections, Deora released a video statement, warning that if such statements from an alliance partner persisted, his party might announce candidates for the seats. Highlighting that the Shiv Sena (UBT) is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance with the Congress and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), Deora underscored the necessity of concluding formal talks on seat-sharing before making any claims or counter-claims.

Milind Deora, the son of Congress veteran Murli Deora, had previously emerged victorious in the Mumbai South seat in 2004 and 2009. However, he secured the first runner-up position in the subsequent elections in 2014 and 2019, losing to Shiv Sena (Undivided) leader Arvind Sawant.
