The Madhya Pradesh government has announced plans to hire 30,000 health professionals, including 3,000 doctors, to enhance medical services across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla revealed this initiative on Sunday, aimed at improving healthcare in district hospitals and health centres at both community and primary levels.

Speaking at a press conference in Rewa, Shukla, who also oversees the health department, said this recruitment drive will help address the ongoing shortage of medical staff. "Once we have enough doctors and paramedical staff, the conditions in district hospitals as well as community and primary health centres will significantly improve," he said.

Staff Shortages in Healthcare

The Indian healthcare system, particularly in rural areas, has faced severe staff shortages for years. A recent report from the Union Health Ministry revealed a nearly 70% shortage of specialist doctors in rural health centres, with the shortage being even more acute for surgeons. In Madhya Pradesh, only seven surgeons are currently serving against 332 sanctioned positions.

Industrial Development in Focus

In addition to the healthcare announcements, Shukla highlighted the state’s focus on industrial growth. He mentioned that the Chief Minister will host the Regional Industry Conclave in Rewa on October 23. This event is expected to attract significant investments, contributing to the development of not only Rewa but also the Vindhya region.

Deputy Chief Minister also noted the progress of Rewa’s airport, which is nearing completion. Once operational, the airport will offer direct flights to cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Hyderabad, further boosting connectivity and regional development.
