Balaghat: 14 families of Gond tribe have suffered social boycott for more than two weeks in a village under Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. The crime of these families was that they were unable to support 200 rupees in the Durga Puja festival.
The economic condition of these families is very bad after the lockdown implemented due to Corona epidemic. Nevertheless, these families agreed to pay 100 rupees for the puja, but it was refused. Prohibition was also imposed on buying and working on ration for these families. Distressed by this, he approached the district administration, which has settled the case this week. Local worship organizers 'Sarvajanik Durga Puja Sansthan' held a meeting in Lamta village under Balaghat on 14 October, where it was decided that all 170 families in the village would contribute Rs 200 to the festival. Many Gond families expressed their inability to pay.
After this, another meeting was called on 3 November after Durga Puja. In this, the village representatives unanimously issued the 'Pani-Tanga' decree, according to which, no village resident would talk to these 14 families nor go to meet them. They were not allowed to buy rations and even the village doctor was warned not to treat them. However, now the Collector has issued strict orders to the villagers issuing the decree, asking them not to behave in this manner.
