New Delhi: The controversy over the name of hijab and namaz continues in educational institutions. In Madhya Pradesh, there has been an uproar at the Dr Hari Singh Gaur Central University in Sagar over a Muslim student offering prayers on Friday (March 25). Hindu organisations have raised objections after the video went viral, after which the investigation has been started. It is being told that the Muslim student was wearing a hijab and offering namaz in the education department. During this time, someone took his video off.
The student, who is seen in the video that is fast going viral on social media, is said to be a resident of Damoh and is a final year student B.Sc in the university. It is said that she comes to the class wearing a hijab every day. On the incident, the Hindu Jagran Manch said that it is objectionable for the student to offer namaz in the university. Registrar of the university Santosh Sahgaura said that the complaint has been received along with the video clip and a five-member committee is being formed to investigate it.
The committee will submit its report within three days and action will be taken on the basis of that. The university administration says there is no dress code in the university. Students only have to come dressed in decent clothes. Home Minister Narottam Mishra has already made it clear that there is no ban on hijab in the state. The controversy over wearing hijab in schools and colleges started in Karnataka in the first week of January this year.
When the matter reached the court, the Karnataka High Court had on March 15 refused to allow the wearing of hijab in classrooms, saying that the hijab was not mandatory in the religious tradition of Islam. The top court had also refused to hear the petition challenging the high court's decision.
