New Delhi: Today, August 7, the Lok Sabha witnessed a tumultuous session as opposition members engaged in sloganeering, causing the House to be adjourned until 12 noon. Despite the House convening for Question Hour, the protest by opposition members persisted, demanding discussions on the Manipur situation and an early motion of no-confidence against the government.

Amidst the chaos, Speaker Om Bila voiced his concern, questioning the intention of the opposition members, expressing that the House was designed for fruitful discussions and debates rather than mere sloganeering. In response to the ongoing disturbances, he took the decision to adjourn the House until noon. The monsoon session of Parliament is slated to continue until August 11.

In a separate development today, the Lok Sabha Secretariat reinstated the membership of Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, who had previously been disqualified from the lower house on March 24. Rahul Gandhi now reclaims his position as an MP representing Wayanad in Kerala.

Notably, the Supreme Court, on Friday, issued an interim order staying Gandhi's conviction in a criminal defamation case that arose from his 'Modi surname' remark. Previously, the Gujarat High Court had refused to stay his conviction, resulting in a two-year jail sentence handed down by a Surat court over the same remark.
