Hemant Soren, the president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is all set to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand at 4 PM today. The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Morabadi Ground in Ranchi, marking Soren's fourth term in office.
Soren won the Barhait assembly seat with a significant margin of 39,791 votes, defeating the BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Congress General Secretary and Jharkhand in-charge, confirmed that Soren would take the oath alone.
Ahead of the ceremony, Soren shared a message for the people of Jharkhand on social media. He said, "Today, when deep cracks are emerging in the social structure, we must emphasize the unity of our ancestors and the determination to bring together every Jharkhandi. Congratulations to every Jharkhandi for their Abua government. Our fight is firm and unceasing. The struggle continues and will continue till the last breath."
A cabinet expansion will follow after a vote of confidence in the state assembly, added Mir. Soren and his wife, Kalpana Soren, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and invited him to attend the ceremony.
The grand event will see the attendance of several prominent leaders from the INDIA alliance and various state chief ministers. Notable attendees include Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.
Other important figures expected at the event include Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
In preparation for the event, security arrangements have been tightened, and traffic regulations have been enforced across the state. Schools in Ranchi will remain closed today due to the swearing-in ceremony.
The JMM-led alliance emerged victorious in the recent assembly elections, securing 56 out of the 81 seats. In contrast, the BJP-led NDA won only 24 seats.
