KANNUR:The father of a 22-year-old Kannur resident has petitioned the Kerala High Court for habeas corpus, claiming that his daughter has been "forcefully converted and married." The petition stated that Benita Grace Varghese, an audio and spoken language student at Chennai's SRM College, has been missing since June 8.
The father claims that she became friends with a man by the name of Fahad. According to the petition, the Varghese family learned that Fahad lives in Kannur's Mattannur through a mobile application.
Varghese Abraham, the man's 54-year-old father, is unaware of the man's full address. He had stated that he used to receive two to three calls from his daughter each day. But as of June 8 at 7:45 p.m., he hasn't heard from this place, and her phone is turned off.
When Abraham couldn't reach his daughter, he immediately got in touch with the hostel staff, who told him she had left on June 8 and was "going to her cousin's home."
On June 9, at 9:37 p.m., Benita left her father a voicemail informing him that she was "going with a person unknown to me." The petition said that 'Fahad' was the name of the person whose phone number the voice message was sent from.
The petitioner believes that the man brought Benita without her will to Mattannur. According to the plea, he fears that Benita would be forced to leave her community and get married to him without her will.
The petition states that the signer lives in Kuwait and is an NRI. While still living in Kuwait, his daughter relocated to Chennai to pursue higher education.
