Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of Kerala, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, intends to present a resolution in the State Assembly, urging the Central Government to retract its proposal for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across the nation. Both the CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) have already expressed their opposition to the UCC, holding seminars on the matter. Worth noting is that the BJP does not hold any MLA seats in the assembly.

Last month, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar accused Chief Minister Vijayan's LDF government and the Congress of instilling fear in the minority community regarding the proposed Uniform Civil Code. The Union Minister stated, "The Left and the Congress are attempting to propagate fear among the minorities in Kerala. This seems to be their sole political tactic—to spread falsehoods. Our government firmly believes in 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.'"

Chief Minister Vijayan has previously pointed out that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) features on the "electoral agenda" of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He tweeted, "Stirring debates around the Uniform Civil Code is an electoral strategy by the Sangh Parivar to advance their majoritarian agenda and deepen communal divisions. We must resist any endeavors to undermine India's diversity and instead promote reforms through democratic discussions within communities."

Furthermore, he urged the Union Government and the Law Commission to withdraw the motion and refrain from enforcing the Uniform Civil Code upon the people. "The Central Government and the Law Commission ought to retract their move to impose a Uniform Civil Code," he asserted.
