Dehradun: Obituary! Shaila Rani Rawat, the BJP MLA from Kedarnath, passed away late Tuesday night at Max Hospital in Dehradun. She was 68 years old, according to her family.
Rawat had been on ventilator support for the past few days, receiving treatment for a severe backbone injury.
Her political career began with a win in the Kedarnath constituency in 2012 as a Congress candidate. Despite losing the seat in 2017, she made a comeback in 2022 as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representative. In 2016, she was among the ten Congress MLAs who rebelled against then-Chief Minister Harish Rawat and joined the BJP.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Shaila Rani Rawat. “I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Shaila Rani Rawat, the beloved MLA from Kedarnath. Her passing is a significant loss for both the party and the local community. Her commitment to duty and public service will always be cherished. I pray for her soul's peace and for strength to her family and supporters in this time of great sorrow,” Dhami shared in a post on X.
