Kannur: Two coaches of the Kannur-Alappuzha (16308) Executive Express derailed during the early hours on Saturday. The incident occurred at the Kannur yard while the train was being prepared for service.
The derailment prompted a delay in the scheduled departure of the train, originally set for 5:10 am. However, services resumed at 6:43 am with the unaffected part of the train.
The derailed coaches caused damage to the signal box at the site. Officials from the Railway Palakkad division have initiated an investigation and requested a comprehensive report on the incident.
It's noteworthy that a year ago, this very train faced a similar setback when two coaches were set ablaze while stationed at the Kannur yard. The incident led to the arrest of a non-state worker by the police.
In a separate unfortunate event in the past, three individuals, including a toddler, lost their lives when a train was intentionally set on fire at Elathur in Kozhikode.
Moreover, dense fog conditions disrupted travel plans for multiple trains headed to Delhi from different parts of the country. Delays were experienced by around 11 trains, including the Khajaraho-Kurushetra Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra, and Vasco-Nizamuddin Express. The fog-related delays also affected nearly two dozen passenger trains arriving in Delhi, causing delays of up to 6 hours or more. Additionally, several flights were delayed due to fog and poor visibility conditions on Friday.
