New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) has suspended an assistant professor for allegedly sexually harassing a student. The university administration has asked the professor not to leave the campus without the prior approval of the competent authority till the inquiry is completed, a senior university official said on Wednesday. Registrar Nazim Hussain Jafri issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday (February 7) and directed the professor to fully cooperate in the investigation.
According to media reports, a notification issued by the university administration said that the alleged 'misconduct' of Assistant Professor S Veeramani of the Department of Management Studies is being investigated by the Internal Complaints Committee. It is alleged that Professor Veeramani has sexually harassed a girl at the workplace, which is serious misconduct. The assistant professor has been suspended with immediate effect. This action has been taken on the complaint of the victim student.
At the same time, in another rape case, a Delhi court refused to grant bail to the accused. The court said that the victim has blamed the accused of raping her after drugging her. The allegation is serious. The matter is under investigation. Therefore, the accused is not entitled to get bail. Along with this, the court has issued instructions to the police to complete the investigation of the case soon.
