New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Thursday filed a charge sheet in connection with the communal violence that broke out during a procession in Jahangirpuri on Hanuman Jayanti. It clearly states that the three main conspirators had already made preparations to attack the Shobha Yatra of the Hindus. The locals had already been provoked for this. The Delhi Police, after examining the data of 2,300 mobile phones and 58 CCTV footage, has made several shocking revelations in the Jahangirpuri violence case. In the charge sheet filed in the court, the Delhi Police has termed the Jahangirpuri violence as a sequel to the anti-CAA protests in 2019 and 2020 and the northeast Delhi riots.

Police have arrested 37 people, including the three main accused Tabrez, Ansar and Irshilam, in the case. However, many of these rioters have been granted bail by the court. At the same time, 8 accused are said to be absconding. Posters of the absconding accused have been released. Police have said in the charge sheet that the situation had started deteriorating since Ram Navami on April 10. Police have identified Tabrez Ansari, Mohammad Ansar and Sheikh Isherfil as the main conspirators of the Jahangirpuri violence. Among them, Isharfil is on the run. According to the police, the accused, Tabrez Ansari, on the one hand, used to talk about peace and tranquillity in front of the police, but on the other hand, he was working to fill poison the people.

Police said Tabrez had started instigating people during protests at several places against the CAA-NRC. Tabrez also had a major role in orchestrating the protest at Kushal Chowk in Jahangirpuri against the CAA. At the same time, Sheikh Isherfil is the man from whose rooftops stones and glass bottles were thrown at the procession of the Hindus. Stone and glass bottles were recovered from the roof during forensic examination.

Police investigations have revealed that on April 10, about six days before the violence, the accused had conspired to commit violence on Hanuman Jayanti. As part of the conspiracy, the accused had deposited stones and glass bottles on the rooftops of their houses to carry out the attack during the Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra. Police have so far recovered swords and country-made pistols from the arrested accused. The police said in the charge sheet that the intention of the accused was to cause heavy losses, which were handled in time due to the alertness of the police.
