THIRUVANANDAPAURAM: Vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar reached Kaithal on Sunday to attend a 3-day state-level programme on Dhanna Bhagat’s birth anniversary. During his address, he paid tribute to distinguished personalities from Kerala and acknowledged their remarkable contributions.

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasised that political tactics cannot be used to use disorder and unrest in the temples of democracy. In his remarks during the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Legislative Assembly building in Thiruvananthapuram, he urged legislators and presiding officers to swiftly address this issue.

"Authorities in constitutional positions must exemplify their conduct by high standards of propriety, dignity, and decorum," stated Dhankhar, highlighting the significance of upholding ethical conduct in such positions.

The vice president emphasised the importance of an efficient and effective legislature's functioning for upholding democratic principles and guaranteeing executive responsibility while drawing attention to the constituent assembly's model performance, which addressed difficult topics without interruption. Along with that, he demanded a halt to the "worrisome trend of intolerance towards the other point of view."

Dhankhar asked people to look past partisan differences and put national interests first. "In a democracy, not all issues can be evaluated via partisan prism," he said. He urged lawmakers to reinstate wit, humour, and sarcasm in public discourse because he was concerned about their departure from parliamentary and legislative dialogues.

Dhankhar acknowledged the right of free speech within the boundaries of the House, but he issued a warning against abusing it for disruptive ends. He highlighted that parliamentary and legislative platforms are not meant to be places where unreliable information is disseminated. "Parliament and legislatures are not platforms of free fall of unverified information," he emphasised.

The vice president emphasised the inviolable nature of parliamentary sovereignty in any democracy, saying that the core of democracy is the people's ordainment as reflected through the legitimated platform of Parliament and the legislatures.

The Vice President stressed that legislative buildings like the Kerala Legislative Assembly symbolise the will of the people, the spirit of democracy, and the foundation of the Constitution while congratulating the people of Kerala and their elected representatives on reaching the silver jubilee milestone. He  highlighted Kerala's forward-thinking legislative actions and commended the state for passing numerous progressive laws. He urged the current lawmakers to build on this illustrious tradition and further enhance it.

Dhankhar praised Kerala for its extensive use of the internet and emerging technology, and he expressed optimism that the state's top-notch workforce and forward-thinking workplace culture will pave the way for innovative new directions in administration. Additionally, he acknowledged the Keralite diaspora's enormous remittance contributions to the state's GDP.
