AMARAVATI: Y S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, accused the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) administration led by Chandrababu Naidu of putting off finishing the famed Polavaram project over the Godavari River.

Speaking in the Assembly, the chief minister presented photographic proof to show what he claimed were Chandrababu Naidu's mistakes that caused the project to be delayed. The chief minister promised that once the rains stop by November, work on the project would be finished quickly.

Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed that during the TDP government, arbitrary engineering approvals were given, endangering the lives of thousands of people. He asserted that the current YSRCP administration is fixing the mistakes that were delaying the project's completion.

The chief minister displayed a photo to demonstrate how, in September 2018, the spillway Gallery was inaugurated and made a media spectacle, despite the fact that only half of the spillway's construction had been finished.
Jagan described how Chandrababu Naidu approved the spillway's construction in June 2019 despite not having finished the approach channel. In actuality, the current administration finished the approach channel in August 2022.
Giving a detailed pictorial representation of how lives were risked for petty gains, the Jagan mentioned Godavari river which was supposed to flow uninterrupted for a 2.1-kilometer long stretch was choked by defective engineering approved by the TDP government.

The river had to squeeze between two spaces that were respectively 380 meters and 300 meters wide. The decision to limit the downstream cofferdam to 680 meters and 120 meters put the lives of thousands of people living along the river's banks in danger.

Jagan offered a thorough explanation of how his government has worked over the past two years to prioritise scrubbing projects in order to correct the significant engineering mistakes approved by the previous government. The project was being delayed as a result of this factor.
