New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to conduct the initial tests for Bharatiya Antariksh Station, India's indigenous space station, according to ISRO Chairman S Somanath. The space agency aims to launch the preliminary version of the space station by 2028. The Bharatiya Antariksh Station will facilitate micro-gravity studies, international collaborative research, and investigations in space biology and medicine. ISRO plans to conduct the first round of tests for the space station in the coming year.

Somanath mentioned that the space station will include a crew command module, habitat module, propulsion module, and docking ports. The entire capsule is estimated to have a mass of around 25 tonnes, with potential expansions in the future. A basic model of the space station is expected to be in orbit by 2028, followed by the full expanded version in 2035. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a review meeting with the Department of Space last year, set ambitious goals for India's space missions. He directed ISRO to establish an Indian Space Station by 2035 and send the first Indian astronaut to the Moon by 2040. The space station is seen as a gateway to interplanetary missions and will serve as an international platform for collaborative space research.

ISRO is focusing on the development of the space station, with tests scheduled to commence next year. The Bharatiya Antariksh Station is a crucial milestone in India's space program, showcasing the country's commitment to space exploration and research.
